Ease the Pain

At one point or another in my life I think I have felt everyone of those seven resistances to taking action on climate change. I don’t think I’m unique in this case either, I would imagine almost everyone has experienced everyone of those at some point. A few of them really strike me as quite foolish knowing what i know now. Like number 2, ” its not my role to sort this out”, which I’m sure is a very popular claim, but it is foolish. Lets say we are sitting in a burning building, are you going to say its not my role to help fight this fire, no you are going to do what you can to help put out the fire because if you don’t there is high chance that ¬†everyone in the building is going to die. Our planet is that building!

I can also relate tremendously to the negative feedback loops, but throughout my life i have developed a habit out of ignoring the fact that I may be straying off course because like we discussed above it is easier than handling the issue at hand. Let me tell you this doesn’t end well, this will result in the issue becoming so much bigger than you could have imagined and usually blowing up in your face. This doesn’t make me feel any better about what is going on in our world today because much of the world is ignoring these signs that we are destroying our planet, and that seems like quite a big deal right? Well if what I am claiming holds true these issues will only get bigger than we could ever imagine and blow up in our face, and I don’t know about you but that doesn’t sound like something I’m very interested in. But based on my 22 years of life experience, issues will only get worse if you choose to neglect them, and I am struggling to understand why we are choosing to actively neglect and even deny probably the biggest issue to ever face our planet.

On a positive note the best way for me to ease the pain when it comes to the issue of climate change is to talk about it. I am a firm believer that if something is bothering you, literally just getting it off your chest will be a huge relief. While I wouldn’t recomend talking about the climate crisis with a climate denier (actually I wouldn’t recommend talking to them at all) talking to a like minded person about the climate crisis could give you a lot of relief.
