Music and Political Inspiration

The song I picked was The Greatest by Sia, because the words are inspiring for anyone that is trying to accomplish something. I feel like it is so easy to get discouraged in today’s world because there is just so much. Famous and wealthy people living a seemingly perfect life with vacations and fancy cars. We see picture perfect images of them we do not see their daily struggles or their struggles they had to go through to get where they are. The song really speaks to me and makes me try to be the greatest that I am to unlock my full potential. My oldest sister is 23 years old in three years of being in the navy she has ranked up to E5 and currently owns two houses. Everyone looking in at her doesn’t see all the struggles and hardships she had to undergo to get where she is. Right after highschool she got into the navy she wasn’t able to get the nursing degree she wanted. She had to go to boot camp 8 weeks away from her family the longest she has ever been from us. She was so accustomed to how life was at home she never had anything hard never had to do a pushup. When she got there she had to do so many and she would remember her family and cry the more she cried the more push ups they made her do. Everything was hard for her she almost quit. But she made it. After boot camp she got sent to California where she was again away from family for another 3 years. She had to learn how to cook and take care of herself. But now after the three years she is moving to the base here at Whidbey where she can at least drive home every weekend. In Sia’s lyric it says “Don’t give up, no no no I’m free to be the greatest, I’m alive” it really makes me want to keep going and persevering. I know that in my future career there will be bumps in the road and I will just have to listen to the song and just try harder and give it my all. The song gives me hope and motivation to not give up just like my sister did.
