Music and Political Inspiration

Music is the source of inspiration, a lot of unique thoughts and ideas were being created with music. Music is a special part of the art, it can’t be seen, but  could be extremely magical and powerful. I heard about the theory of  “Gold music”: 1. You might don’t know this song, but you surely heard it before. 2 Usually older than your mom, or at least older than you. 3 You can either understand the back story of this song or cannot understand the meaning of it at all. After all these years, this theory is still very magical.

The song I picked is “Help” by the Beatles, it came out in 1965. The first time I listened to this song was in a CD store with my friends in the fall of 2010. Honestly, back to 2010, I wasn’t old enough to fully understand the song without known the meaning of the lyrics, but the fact that I do remember was the singer mentioned the word “Help” so many times, therefore I thought it might be a song talked about someone need help or something, I truly didn’t know the reason why and how did I get into it, guess because I found this song is really attractive and interesting, especially the rhythm of this song, always mystery starts to repeat in my mind.

Several years later, I listened to this song again at my friend’s home, and that remind me the “ help, help” song I have be listen to, so I asked him the name of this song. It sounds like a joke to me, the moment I heard this song called “Help”, I thought my friend was lying for fun. On the other hand, the difference is after I grown older, I can understand the lyrics and the emotion of this song, which really grabbed my attention. Furthermore, since I started to listen more and more songs, so eventually I realized this song was made by the famous Beatles. After then, I started to enjoy this song.

Honestly, the lyrics of this song is quite simple and easy to understand compared to the others but the meaning behind these words are very thoughtful:

Help, I need somebody
Help, not just anybody
Help, you know I need someone, help

When I was younger, so much younger than today
I never needed anybody’s help in any way
But now these days are gone, I’m not so self assured
Now I find I’ve changed my mind and opened up the doors

Help me if you can, I’m feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round
Help me, get my feet back on the ground
Won’t you please, please help me

And now my life has changed in oh so many ways
My independence seems to vanish in the haze
But every now and then I feel so insecure
I know that I just need you like I’ve never done before

Help me if you can, I’m feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round
Help me, get my feet back on the ground
Won’t you please, please help me

When I was younger, so much younger than today
I never needed anybody’s help in any way
But now these days are gone, I’m not so self assured
Now I find I’ve changed my mind and opened up the doors

Help me if you can, I’m feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round
Help me, get my feet back on the ground
Won’t you please, please help me, help me, help me, oh

There are few quotes from this song are really attracted me. When people were younger, more accurately, when people were stronger and healthier, they didn’t care that much about people around them who need help. Nonetheless, after people eventually move into the circumstance which when they are not as strong as they used to be, the time they feel they need some help, everything are too late to change. Same as society, people always look at short term much more often than long term, and it will eventually let themselves feel regret. Nowadays, people are becoming lonely than they never been to, not only because the developed of internet and social media, but also because of people’s new life style. We have to make some change to improve the relationships with others now. There’s no replay for real life, we only get one shot for our limit life, there’s no time for us to keep making the same mistake over and over, otherwise the result will make us regret again, this time, only harder.
