One of the most important goals I have is simply to stay educated on the topic. It’s easy to become ignorant of everything that’s going on around us but in order to make a change you have to stay up to date. There’s several reasons this goal is the biggest one I have for myself. If you stay educated, you can educate others on the same issues you’re fighting for, and it also adds credibility to what you’re doing. Being educated also helps you to understand what you can realistically do in order to make that change happen. Another goal I had was to just engage with the environment a bit more. What I mean by this is that when I’m outside, I need to begin to slow down and appreciate the nature around me more. I feel that, especially after a certain age, many people no longer appreciate the world around them or take any time to admire it–they simply carry on with their day without paying it any attention. Doing so helps to motivate me and it also serves to remind me of what I’m fighting for and why. Of course, it might get increasingly difficult to find a place where I can appreciate nature; if anything, that goal may only make me feel more depressed about where our world’s heading. Nevertheless, I think it’s important to stay aware of what’s around us. Another goal I had was to do more community service to help the environment. It’s one of the easiest ways to actively help the environment, and it also fits in with what I need to do before I graduate. The common factor between all of the goals I set is that they aren’t stuff I have to go out of my way to do. They fit in with what I already do and as a result, I don’t have to worry about keeping myself super motivated and burning myself out.
